With reference to the correspondence, resting
43 with Mr. N. L. Smith's telegram No.257 of 27th October,
1937, on the subject of the investigation into the alleged sinking of certain fishing junks, I have the
honour to forward in original a photograph with certain
relevant endorsements.
2.
The circumstances in which this photograph
came into the hands of this Government are set out in
the enclosed short memorandum which has been prepared
by the Attorney General; it is unfortunate that Captain
Leknes apparently put his own convenience before the
common interest by refraining from producing the
photograph before the Commission and by sailing from
the Colony before effective use could be made of it.
3. Although the corroboration afforded is of
some importance I am reluctant to depart from the strict
law of evidence and do not propose to give the
photograph the same publicity as will be accorded to
the Commission's Report. I conceive, however, that
you may be glad to be aware of its existence.
4.
